Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know Japanese before applying to a language school?

It depends on your educational background. For university graduates, prior Japanese study is generally not mandatory, though some specific schools may still request a certificate. However, for high school graduates, proof of Japanese study is strictly required. High school graduates must provide a 150-hour study certificate or proof of Japanese proficiency at JLPT N5 level or higher (or an equivalent recognized qualification) and will undergo an interview with the Japanese language school to prove their proficiency. Having a basic understanding of Hiragana/Katakana and basic communication skills, such as the ability to introduce yourself, can significantly strengthen a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) application.

How much income and savings does my sponsor need for a Japanese language school application?

In general, your sponsor should have at least USD 10,000 annual income and USD 10,000 in savings balance. However, the exact financial requirements may vary depending on the Japanese language school and the applicant’s situation.

Can I work part-time while studying in Japan?
Yes. By applying for the "Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted," you can legally work up to 28 hours per week during regular terms, and up to 40 hours per week during long school holidays.
Do you assist with university and vocational school admissions?
Absolutely. Beyond language schools, we provide comprehensive academic counseling, document preparation, and interview coaching for vocational schools (Senmon Gakko), universities, and graduate school programs across Japan.
How long in advance should I start my student visa application for a Japanese language school?
We highly recommend starting 5 to 6 months before your intended intake (January, April, July, or October). The official Certificate of Eligibility (COE) processing by the Immigration Bureau alone takes about 2 to 3 months.
What are the requirements for a standard working visa (White-Collar)?
For the standard "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" visa, you generally need a Bachelor's degree (or higher) from a recognized university, OR 10+ years of documented professional experience in your specific field, along with a firm job offer from a Japanese company.
Do you support "Blue-Collar" or Specialized Skills workers?

Yes! The "Specified Skilled Worker" (SSW / Tokutei Ginou) program is expanding rapidly. We help candidates match with employers in authorized fields, including Hospitality, Construction, Manufacturing, Transportation, and more.

Do I need to pass JLPT N1 or N2 to find a job?
It depends on the visa and sector. Traditional corporate roles usually require N2 or N1. However, IT, engineering, and global recruitment sectors often accept English speakers. For the SSW (Blue-Collar) visa, passing the JLPT N4 or JFT-Basic is usually sufficient.
What are "Rirekisho" and "Shokumukeirekisho"?
A Rirekisho is a standard Japanese resume showing your educational and employment timeline. A Shokumukeirekisho is a detailed curriculum vitae explaining your specific skills and projects. We provide expert support in formatting both to meet Japanese corporate standards.
Will JEC Partners guarantee me a job?
We do not guarantee job placement, as the final hiring decision rests with the employer. However, we equip you with expert market analysis, customized job search strategies, and interview coaching to maximize your success rate in Japan's competitive market.
What are the new 2026 requirements for a Business Manager Visa?
Following the major immigration revisions in October 2025, requirements have become significantly stricter. You now need a minimum capital of ¥30,000,000, must hire at least one full-time resident employee, demonstrate Japanese language proficiency at the JLPT N2 level (either personally or through an employee), and have your business plan validated by a certified professional.
Can a foreigner start a company in Japan without a visa?
Yes, you can legally incorporate a Joint-Stock Company (KK) or Limited Liability Company (GK) without living in Japan. However, to actively manage the business from inside Japan, you must obtain the Business Manager Visa or hold another valid working/spouse visa.
Can I use a Virtual Office for my company?
If you only need to register the company legally, a Virtual Office is perfectly fine, and we provide this service. However, if you intend to apply for a Business Manager Visa, immigration strictly requires a dedicated, physical, and clearly partitioned office space.
What if I don't have the 30 Million JPY capital for the new visa?
We can help you explore the Startup Visa program supported by specific municipalities like Tokyo or Fukuoka. It allows foreign entrepreneurs to stay in Japan for up to 1–2 years to prepare their business, acting as a stepping stone before switching to the strict Business Manager Visa.
Do I need a Japanese resident as a co-director?
Legally, no. You can establish a company entirely on your own. In practice, however, having a resident representative director can make the initial procedures much smoother, particularly when opening a corporate bank account. We provide full support to help you navigate these administrative requirements.
